why is it free?
We believe patronage should be free. The cost of running patronat is very small since we don't host your content - we just connect people. The platform runs on donations and will always be free to use.
what are your platform fees?
Zero platform fees. We never charge anything. You only pay Stripe processing fees (2.9% + 30¢ per transaction for US cards, 4.4% + 30¢ for international cards). See detailed fee breakdown with examples.
how are payments processed?
All payments go through Stripe, the world's leading payment platform. Money goes directly to the creator's Stripe account - patronat never sees your card details or holds the money. See how payments work for details.
how do payouts work?
Payments go directly to your Stripe Connect account - we never hold your money. You can set up daily, weekly, monthly, or manual payouts through Stripe. Money arrives in your bank 2-7 business days after payout.
can I invite someone to patronat?
Yes! Enter their email and pledge monthly support. You'll get a unique link to share with them. When they accept and set up their Stripe payout account, your support starts automatically.
what if I need to cancel support?
You can cancel support anytime from your dashboard.
are support payments tax-deductible?
Support payments are not tax-deductible. You and the people you support are responsible for your own tax obligations - consult a tax professional for guidance specific to your situation.
how are taxes handled for US creators?
If you're a US creator earning under $150k/year, you may qualify for the "No Tax on Tips" deduction (up to $25,000 annually through 2028). Stripe issues 1099-K forms for your income. See US tax information for details on who qualifies and how to claim.
is my support public or private?
Support relationships are public by default - showing what you value and building reputation through your support portfolio. You can make individual relationships private using a checkbox when setting up support.
can I both support others and receive support?
Absolutely! Support others while receiving support yourself.
how do I get started?
Sign up, choose if you want to support others or get supported (or both). If you're supporting someone, add a payment method. If you're receiving support, connect your Stripe account to receive payouts.
